Porepunkah vacation January 2008

7th January 2008

Best nights sleep I have had in years. I did not even have to get up for the toilet until 5am. Then I had a shower and at 6:15am Leanne came over and she and I went for a walk.. We walked for one hour. The air was cool and it was really refreshing.

Sitting on the verandah of my cabin, working on a cross stitch I am doing for my grandaughter, in the heat of the afternoon. It is very, very hot, but, not unpleasant, sitting here in the shade and doing my cross stitching and sipping cold water.

We went for a swim in the pool earlier and it was really lovely and now, just sitting here, relaxing, well, it is lovely.

6pm

Another swim this afternoon and now Leanne and Steve have arrived for dinner. We are having low fat spaghetti.

8th January

I got up at 5am and went and had a shower and washed my hair. Showers are resticted to 3 min cos of the drought and after 3 minutes the lights go off. The timing is from when you walk into the shower room, so really, the actual timing of the shower is less than 3 minutes if you do not hop under it immediately. By the time you wait for the hot water to come through, a minute has gone by already..................

Anyway, I am now used to showering in the semi dark. :0)

After my shower, I come back to my cabin, make a cup of coffee and usually I go for a walk in the morning cool with Leanne but this morning I messaged Leanne and told her I was not walking today. I just want to sit on the verandah in the cool air and enjoy it because it won't be cool for too long.

So, that is what I am doing now. It is going to be another scorcher today. When it heats up it is pretty hot, but, because the evenings cool down really nicely, it is bearable and I love the swimming pool.

(Leanne on the left, me on the right)

We had 2 swims yesterday. It really is lovely and it is so beautiful here. I am so happy to have this place to go to. I will be spending more time down here, when I can.

Leanne and Steve and Pat and I went to Harrietville for a look see. Not much there,b ut, the area is very pretty.

Spent time in the pool this afternoon and then Leanne cooked Stroganoff and we had dinner at my place.

Altogether, another quiet but pleasant day.

January 9th

I spoke to Sharon on the phone last night. She is feeding my cats for me. She said they are all well and happy. This is good. I was worried about leaving them on their own and I feel better now I know they are ok.

Leanne and I went for a walk at 6am and it was lovely walking in the cool.

More swimming. I just love that pool. We are relaxing and it is really nice.

Steve is relaxing by sitting in the shade and reading.

It is still very, very hot. So bloody hot. It has been high 30's and even 40 celcius for the past few days. A cool change is expected in a couple of days.

January 10th

We went into Myrtleford this morning and I picked up “cool collar” from the op shop. It is brand new. The ladies that work in that shop are making them and selling them and they keep running out of stock. I had to order mine on Monday and I picked it up this morning.

(me on left, wearing my cool collar)

It cost me 5 bucks and it is awesome. They are like a neckerchief except they are filled with “cool” crystals that keep water cold. You are supposed to soak the cool collar in cold water and then wear it around your neck and it keeps you lovely and cool.

I have found if I just put mine in the fridge for a couple of hours, it cools down beautifully. I do love it and it was an excellent investement. I know you can get “cool collars” through the MS Society as a lot of people with MS like to wear them in summer. The one I got in Mrytleford, I am sure is a lot cheaper than the ones us people with MS normally purchase. It is just as good and I love it.

We did more swimming this afternoon and then had hamburgers that Steve cooked, for dinner. They were yummy. And low fat.

(Patrick enjoying the heat)

I must say, it has been so hot here I have hardly been hungry at all and what I do eat is low fat and healthy.

I hope the scales reflect my low fat food intake. Lol

I have been drinking so much water.

Patrck and I have gotten through 25 litres in 5 days. Patrick probably drinks less than a litre a day and I am drinking the rest of it. I just cannot get enough of the stuff and my body seems to be keeping it.

Whether it is the new injections I have been on for a week or just coincidence or maybe my body is holding all the fluid it can because it is so hot, but, honestly, for the first time in at least 5 years I am not having to get up for the toilet 2 or more times a night.

This is good because I do not have a bathroom in my cabin. I have to walkto the toilet/shower block. It is not far to go, but, it still helps that I am not constantly getting up in the night for the toilet.

It really is like a miracle. MS is known for bladder problems and frequency has been a huge problem for me for years. For the first time in years it is just not an issue.

My new injections are going well. I have had no side effects from the alternate daily injections. Not even any of the most common ones.

It was difficult at first, learning to mix the drug and change needles and use the auto inject, but, now I have done it 4 times I am used to it and I do not need to read the instructions anymore. I am able to do it without to much thinking. It is becoming 2nd nature. I even injected mysel in the butt quite easily, today.

There are many different alternite sites on the body to inject into. When I was on Copaxon daily injections I used to mainly inject in my thigh or stomach. With this injection I am more daring and so far I have done the top of my leg, both sides of my belly and my butt. I am doing good. :0)

January 11th

Leanne and I went for our daily walk again this morning. I have walked every day except for Tuesday morning. We walk for half an hour and then turn around and walk back to the park and that way we are walking for an hour a day. Plus all the swimming we are doing, so, it is good.

I went for a swim this morning and this afternoon I have been very lazy. I even managed to have a nap during the heat of the day.

Around 3:30pm a cool change rolled in.

(hard to see, but, there really are raindrops on my car)

It is blissful, sitting here on my verandah, typing away, while the rain pours down around me. It is really lovely and I think tonight we will not need to sleep with the fan on for the first time this week.

We are going home tomorrow morning, early. I plan to leave here at 5:30am, so, we should be home by 10am at the very latest.

Patrick is really homesick. He just wants to go home. He is not used to being away for so long and he is missing the cats and feeling very out of his comfort zone. Me? I am perfectly happy here. I really like it, a lot. It has been a nice break away and I am so glad we did it.

I will be happy to be home, just for the airconditioning and to be able to see the cats. :0)

I will miss the swimming pool, though.

I have done a heap of cross stitching and Jasmines birth sampler is getting closer and closer to being finished.

(I got a lot of Cross stitching done on Jasmines birth sampler)

I have done no bears this week. It has been way too hot.

All up, I have had a lovely break away from home and despite the constant heat, I have loved it. I am so surprised the heat did nto bother me too much, but, it honestly didn't. If I had been at home, it would have, but, for some reason, being here with only a fan (my air con is next to useless) has not bothered me too much and though I look forward to the air con at home, I have learned I can survive a few very hot days away, without it.
